About me
Hi, my name is Phil Parsons and I am a 31 year old web developer from London, England. As a developer I currently work for VerseOne Technologies within the product development team coding for the VerseOne product suite on both the client and server sides.
Programming
I tend to think of myself as an end to end developer. I spend much of my time working in PHP and ColdFusion with MySQL, object oriented Javascript (including jQuery), HTML and CSS. I like to keep an eye on the “HTML5” specifications and play with new features as certain browsers implement them. I also code in Java and have recently become addicted to both node.js and C. I had used Netbeans as my weapon of choice for a long time until recently moving to Eclipse, namely Aptana (3 beta), due to the awesome perspective for PyDev, the introduction of the terminal, integration with git and the great themes that it comes bundled with (Space cadet rocks!). On my Linux box I am slowly progressing with VIM which I find to be a very powerful editor.
Home life
Outside of work I am a dad, a husband, a carpenter, a plasterer, a painter and decorator, a mechanic, a… I am passionate about photography and have recently started to shoot my own photos with a Nikon D90 although I feel I have much to learn about composition, light and colour before I can feel competent enough to call myself a “photographer”. I like to think I’m not a stereotypical nerdy programmer, I weight train and have ridden DH mountain bikes and BMX since I was in my early teens.
Disclaimer
I don’t pretend to be an expert about anything I write about on this site, I’m just another dev with a blog and I write about things that excite, annoy, and confuse me.
