Creating a zombie in Photoshop – evil eyes effect

Posted on October 5, 2008 by Phil   2 comments

I should be studying for an exam tomorrow so I’ll make this a quick one, our zombie girl still looks a little too alive so we need to work on the face a little more.

Step 1:

Open up your zombie file from the other tutorials and go ahead and add a new layer above the background copy of the girl. Zoom in on her eyes and with a soft brush paint in the whites of her eyes with black. Reduce the opacity of the layer to show a little detail of the eyes, I set mine to 80%.

Step 2:

Next select the iris of the eyes, using the elliptical marque tool with about 2px of feather is groovy, and fill them with white on a new layer above the darkened whites we just made. Set the layers blend mode to soft light and you should have a nice evil looking stare going on.

Step 3:

To further enhance our new evil looking eyes select the whole eye area in quickmask or whatever and add in a new hue/saturation adjustment layer above our two new eye layers. Play with the settings until you have a nice effect where the eyes look filled with blood. You may have noticed that I have added some blood to the eyes also which was just done with some splatter brushes I downloaded and the brush tool much like we did in the last tutorial with the cheek scar. Check the links on the sidebar for some cool brush free downloads.

Step 4:

If you want you can leave the image there until the next tutorial when I’ll have time to better explain things or you can add a little hard light shading to the eyes set on its own layer.

Well we are starting to look much more zombie like now but we have a long way to go yet, don’t forget to subscribe to these tutorials so you don’t miss out!
